Entertainment can be seen as an activity that diverts and holds attention of the people around. It can be viewed as an event or activity that is designed to give pleasure as well as relaxation to the viewing audience. Such audience may be an individual as in case of computer games or a group as viewing a theater or a baseball game.

All varieties of arts and fine arts as well as a host of other establishments that includes cultural and recreational interests of people may be termed as entertainment.

Production, promotion and display of live or photographed performances for public viewing are the most common form of entertainment.

Exhibition of objects that is historical, cultural in nature or have educational or scholarly interests are also sources of entertainment.
 
Books and literature are the oldest source of entertainment. In the ancient times as well as in the modern era books and literature continue to hold a position of pride among the sources of educative entertainment.

Exhibition entertainment includes amusement parks, fairs, museums, theme parks, trade shows, fashion shows, industrial shows, book fares, wax museums, Art exhibitions and designer’s shows etc.

Live entertainment includes circus, comedy show, concerts, clubs, dance and music, songs, drama, fireworks, musical theater, discotheques, operas, parades, performance arts, plays, magic, sports events, and all types of cultural events.

Mass media entertainment are films, magazines, books, periodicals, newspapers, music, recordings, TV, video, movies, cartoons, novels, and games etc.

Celebrities are part and parcel of most live entertainments. They may be politicians, leaders, actors, sportsmen, scientists, engineers, doctors, activists, academician, feature writers, columnist, journalists, musicians, singers, dancers, artists, painters, and orators and so on.

Basic entertainment includes acrobatics, aerial acts, animal training, beauty contests, equilibristic, balancing, juggling, basic performing arts, and even sex business.

Comedy is one of the best forms of entertainment. Comedy movies, songs, books, literature, drama, music, and actions all give people the best relaxation in life.

The industry that is providing entertainment for the viewers or onlookers is also called entertainment. Reading is another type of entertainment widely used by the common men. Harmless entertainment is what can be termed as true form of entertainment.
